Roe v Wade 43rd Anniversary Celebration, Tuesday, January 26, 2 to 4 P.M. in the Rotunda.

Invites You To Celebrate 44 Years of Safe and Legal Abortion

February 7, 2017

An Event to Honor Roe v. Wade

Where: The Rotunda at the Roundhouse (411 State Capitol, Santa Fe, NM 87501)

When: Tuesday, February 7, 2017

Time: 9:30 to 11:00 A.M.

44 years ago, abortion became legal in the United States. Since then, hundreds of restrictions on the safe procedure have been proposed and enacted across the country, making it impossible for women and families to access this constitutional right. Join us to keep this personal decision between a woman and her doctor, without government interference this legislative session.

Now more than ever we need to protect reproductive rights. In the face of the violent attacks and false allegations against Planned Parenthood and other clinics, we need to stand up against hateful rhetoric and extreme tactics that escalate violence against our clinics.

Please join us as we celebrate Roe v. Wade and continue to protect access to reproductive health services for women in New Mexico. You will:

  • Meet with community leaders

  • Hear a program of great speakers

  • Learn what you can do this legislative session and beyond

  • Eat cake!

Celebrate Roe v. Wade. Keep abortion safe and legal in New Mexico.

respectABQwomen Campaign

We WON! We kept abortion safe and legal!20131119_214418
Thank you, NOW volunteers!

Thanks to the effort and the many hours of dedicated volunteers who called voters in Albuquerque, canvassed in Albuquerque, carried campaign signs in front of  the Albuquerque polls, and drove voters to the Albuquerque polls, we did it! The final tally was 55% in our favor to 45%. A very respectable (pun intended) margin!

The respectABQwomen campaign was a group of women, families, and allied organizations dedicated to protecting a woman’s ability to make private medical decisions with her family and doctor.

Supporting organizations:

  • American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of New Mexico
  • American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynocologists
  • League of Women Voters of New Mexico
  • New Mexico Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice
  • New Mexico Women’s Agenda
  • National Organization for Women (Santa Fe Chapter)
  • Planned Parenthood of New Mexico
  • The Southwest Women’s Law Center
  • Southwestern Women’s Options
  • Strong Families
  • Young Women United

And a huge THANK YOU to these organizations who rallied volunteers to help the campaign: Organizing for Action, Catholics for Choice, and the Feminist Majority!

The Roe v. Wade Anniversary

The Roe v. Wade Anniversary was a success! Legislators from all over New Mexico lining up to speak, pledging that we will not go back to the dark days before Roe! Santa Fe's own Martha Burke, Mayor Coss, Coalition members. Men, women, and children — it was a sight to behold. Thank you everyone who participated and helped to plan this — Santa Fe NOW women (of course) and Coalition for Choice members. And, this wonderful event was followed by a Planned Parenthood-sponsored 40th birthday party for Roe v Wade.

“A Conversation with Jessica Valenti”

The Santa Fe NOW / Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice fundraiser for the Pro-Choice Safety Network Fund featuring feminist author Jessica Valenti was a huge success!  Thanks to everyone who volunteered, donated, and attended our events.  The afternoon Meet the Author buffet at Jambo Café was completely sold out and the evening event, “A Conversation with Jessica Valenti” at The Santa Fe Woman’s Club was standing room

only!  The Silent Auction was a tremendous success.  We raised a lot of money for the Pro-Choice Safety Network Fund, raised awareness for Santa Fe NOW and created a forum for future actions against the War on Women in New Mexico.  Here are some pictures from the afternoon and evening events.

Celebrate the 39th Anniversary of Roe v Wade

Join us to celebrate the 39th Anniversary of Roe v Wade.
Help us preserve reproductive rights in New Mexico
For Immediate Release

January 16, 2012. The New Mexico Coalition for Choice is sponsoring its annual Rally and Press Conference for Choice at the Roundhouse to observe the 39h anniversary of the historic Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision. Rabbi Marvin Schwab of Temple Beth Shalom will deliver the invocation.

This year, more than at any time in recent history, basic reproductive freedoms are under attack in New Mexico and across the U.S. In New Mexico, our Constitution provides greater protection for a women’s right to choose than most states. Many low-income women have access to Medicaid funds for reproductive health care in our state.

Anti-choice groups are promising unprecedented efforts to diminish reproductive choices in our state. The Coalition for Choice is particularly concerned about the negative impact that parental involvement laws, which include both parental consent and notification, have on teens and young women. Parental involvement laws have only one goal: to chip away at protections granted by Roe v. Wade and make it difficult for teens’ to access reproductive health services. Our legislators need to hear from New Mexico’s pro-choice voices!

We don’t want any further restrictions on contraceptives/abortion in New Mexico!

This event is sponsored by The New Mexico Coalition for Choice, including: Santa Fe NOW, ACLU-NM, NM Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, Planned Parenthood of New Mexico, American Association of University Women, Southwest Women’s Law Center, UNM Center for Reproductive Health, and Southwestern Women’s Options, Abortion Care Network and Young Women United.
